Make A Suggestion, Get a Web Site

On Wednesday 9th January Amin Motin (a fellow Brit) and I are going to build a niche web site powered by WordPress and we’re going to broadcast it live online via Google Hangouts.

Then we’re going to give it away.

While I build the site, Amin is going to create the content and we’re aiming to do the whole thing in a couple of hours.

It’s an experiment.

What we need though is a suggestion from you as to what the web site should be about. Amin has already had a couple of suggestions in the health niche, but the site can be about anything really. (If we don’t get any further suggestions then the likelihood is it will be in the health niche as that’s Amins field of expertise.)

We have no idea if we can do this or if we’ll fall flat on our faces with it – which is a distinct possibility. Having said that I’m sure I’d quite like my own web site built for me if someone was offering to do it and all I needed to do was make a suggestion about the topic.

Like I said, it’s an experiment.

But what we WILL end up with is a new WordPress driven niche site and it could be yours.

If you want to stand a chance of getting it, all you need to do is put forward your suggestion as to what the site could be about. There are no “wrong answers”, the site could be about anything at all, but we’ll make the final decision about the topic.

If you’re unsure about how to go about this whole process, then this is a golden opportunity for you to find out how it’s done from beginning to end and our hope is we’ll leave nothing out.

Why are we doing this?

Simple. It’s because we’re about to start several levels of coaching and we want to show you what we can do.

We know that we can take a complete newbie and eventually turn them into a confident online entrepreneur. But we know that before anyone will consider this, we need to show that we can do what we can do.

This little exercise should prove that, and we intend to later provide the video in return for signing up to our mailing list. (You could do something like this too.)

Okay?

Now leave your suggestion, I’m sure you’ll have at least one.  🙄

Freebie Christmas Plugin

Just a short note to wish you a Merry Christmas if you celebrate it – I know not everyone does – and to give you a download link to a freebie plugin.

This is actually my own PG branded version of the PLR plugin I released as part of October’s PLAhh.com membership (re-opening in January).

It allows you to create GENUINE One Time Offers on your WordPress blogs.

Let me explain.

Many people misunderstand the power of a One Time Offer (OTO), and over time it’s become an interchangeable word with upsell. But a genuine OTO is very different from an upsell.

With an upsell you can usually bookmark it and go back to the upsell page and take it later. But with a genuine OTO you get ONE chance to take the offer and then it’s gone forever.

This makes a genuine offer well worth taking and vendors that understand the principle also understand the power it wields:-

“Get it now or it’s gone forever.”

Big Ed 48 Hour Sale

Offer Closed

***

Even though I’ve sold more than 700 almost 1,000 copies of Big Ed, I still get stopped dead in my tracks when someone asks me how to do something in WordPress that I know Big Ed will do for them.

If you don’t yet have it and you’re wondering what Big Ed does, it adds additional features to the built in TinyMCE editor that comes with WordPress.  It expands the abilities of the default editor, and adds some extra features that we’re very confident you’ll find incredibly useful.

And while that might sound innocent enough, wait until you see what it can do.

By default, the buttons you get with the WordPress editor look like this:-

And you can also then press the “Kitchen Sink” button to get some additional toolbar buttons:-

So that your toolbar would then look like this with the other buttons enabled:-

Now what happens when you install and activate Big Ed?

Well… You get to see this:-

You might have seen something like this before, and there are other plugins that do a similar thing, but we went a step further and added some very special formatting tools.

For instance, now you can add three new styles to your posts in the form of Johnson boxes, graphical bullets, and graphical separators.

First, here’s an example of one of the Johnson box styles you can add. We’ve included a selection in a mix of styles and widths, making 9 altogether. This isn’t a screenshot you’re looking at, this is the plugin in action and the text in this box is selectable – try it.

Next, how about some separators? There are 10 in 3 different widths making 30 altogether. Here are some examples…

First, Green Shade:-

Next, Dashed Blue:-

separator

And now Dotted Red:-

separator

Finally, how about some graphical bullets? There are 6 different bullet styles you can use.

  • Bullet.
  • Bullet.
  • Bullet.

And here’s another example of bullets.

  • Bullet.
  • Bullet.
  • Bullet.

And some more.

  • Bullet.
  • Bullet.
  • Bullet.

As I’m on good terms with my long term customers I tend to forget that new customers might not have Big Ed yet, and I’ve been reminded of that recently by emails from people who didn’t know they needed it, but it directly solves a problem they have.

Okay.

I’ve decided to do two things.

First, run a 48 hour sale for Big Ed, and then secondly plan in some updates for v2 – I’ve got some good ideas of where to go with the changes (e.g. lots more built in graphics), but I’m always open to suggestions. Hint-hint.  🙄

(If you already have Big Ed then it’s currently at v1.1.2 and you can pick up the latest version from your personal download page.)

If you don’t yet have Big Ed, this is just for you.

Starting today at 6.00pm GMT I’m running a THIRTY COPIES ONLY sale for Big Ed at just $10.

This is the lowest price it will ever be as the regular price for the current version of Big Ed is $27, and when I release v2 I’ll put it up to $47. I will upgrade all owners of Big Ed to v2 at no charge.

For 48 hours or until all 20 copies are sold you can make a huge saving by snagging yours at just $10. It’s a bargain.

But only if you’re one of the few. When all copies are sold the sale will close so if you don’t already have it you need to be a bit sharpish as I expect them to go fairly quickly.

Just a word of warning though.

I typically don’t send out reminders once a sale has started (sometimes I do) and I shake my head when someone writes to me after the fact saying “please can I have it at the sale price?”

The answer is always no, full price or wait until I run another sale on it in 6-12 months time.

Don’t be that person. If you don’t have Big Ed, now’s your chance.

The 30 copies sale will go live at 6.00pm GMT (1.00pm EST) today, Wednesday 19th.

Share Your Purchase Plugin

Offer Closed

***

We’ve been busy creating a new plugin based on something Amazon does after you’ve made a purchase. I only noticed this about 3 weeks ago when buying a new Kindle Fire HD (I love it).

Amazon are damn clever at getting customers to do things like buy additional items and make reviews, and they employ some really smart marketing people and programmers to come with these ideas.

Right after you’ve completed your order they show you a little box where you can (in their words) “Share your purchase” by either Facebook, Twitter or email.

My wife and I saw it and we both said “THAT is BRILLIANT!” 😉

I shared my purchase on Facebook and got a comment from a friend about it very quickly. Marketing job for Amazon done and it didn’t cost them a penny. This works really well and you’re going to start seeing it on my own download pages very soon.

Just think about it.

Your customer is hot and pleased with their purchase, and now they want to show off at how they’ve got something new and very cool. While they’re feeling like that you give them the perfect channel to do it.

So that’s what we’ve been working on – a WP version of that “Share” box – and we’ve gone a little bit further.

With our new plugin you can optionally add tabs for Facebook, Twitter, G+, Pinterest and email. And it comes with a nice selection of colour schemes too.

It’s still being finalised and then there’s some test to do, but I think I’ll have it out by this time next week if not before.

You can leave a comment or ask questions below. 😉

Get Plugins Weekend Sale

Offer Closed

***

Starting today I’m running a weekend sale for the exceptionally useful “Get Plugins” plugin at just $10 (full price at launch is $27).

What does it do?

You know how when you install a new blog (or worse still you’re working with an existing one that might be a clients installation) and there are certain “must have” plugins that need installing?  Usually you can either FTP them all up at once (which is how I *used to* do it) or install them one at a time by using the browser uploader.

FTP is easy and quick enough (unless there are lots of files in a plugin), but sometimes if you’re working with someone else’s blog, they don’t give you (or don’t know!) their FTP details.

So then you’re stuck with having to upload them all via the browser or search through the WordPress repository in the admin panel and adding them that way.  It’s a pain and it can take AGES if you have about 15-20 standard plugins to install.

What “Get Plugins” does is allow you to set up your list of plugin locations in advance, and the plugin will go fetch them from wherever they’re located and install them all for you.

This can be a location in the WordPress repository for free plugins you’re using, or a location on one of your own domains if it’s a premium plugin.

All you have to do is know the URL where each zip is located and either do a quick copy and paste into a box, or just upload a text file with all the URLs in.  For extra speed you can even add the text file into the plugin zip if you want to and the plugin will find it when it’s uploaded.

So now instead of installing all your plugins one at a time, you get to install the whole lot in one go.

Pretty cool eh?

When you click the “Submit” button, then all the plugins in the list are retrieved concurrently and independently of the others, so there’s no waiting for each one to complete before the next one starts – they all run at the same time.  😉

The weekend sale starts today at 6.00pm GMT (1.00pm EST), and I’ll send you a short email when it does.

I wonder if you have any suggestions for some favourite plugins you’d like to see in the default text file list of plugins we include?  If you do, please leave the full URL of the zip file AND the page it’s on.
